Self-consumption for energy communities in Spain: A regional analysis under the new legal framework

European climate polices acknowledge the role that energy communities can play in transition. Self-consumption installations shared among those living same building are a good example of such communities. In this work, regional analysis optimal self-consumption under new legal framework recently passed Spain is performed. Results show sizing installation leads to economic savings for self-consumers all territory, both options with and without remuneration surplus. A sensitivity on technology costs revealed batteries still require noticeably cost reductions be cost-effective behind meter environment. addition, solar compensation mechanisms make less attractive scenario low PV costs, since feeding surplus into grid, yet efficient, becomes more cost-effective.
